1. Is the CARC facility open to the public for use?
The aquatic and fitness facility will be open to the public for use based on the purchase of a membership. Membership fee structure has been developed (Please see FAQ #3). Group usage rates have been developed for swim leagues and teams in addition to special programs and events such as birthday parties, swim camps, swim and safety classes. Special courses and programming will also be offered for members and non-members through the Continuing Education and Workforce Development Division of Garrett College and the Garrett County Memorial Hospital Wellness Division. 2. What is the process to obtain a membership?

3. What is the cost for a membership?

4. What does my membership include?
Phase I of the CARC Membership includes access to the pools for all ages, access to the fitness room for members ages 14 and up, discounts on selected programming through the Garrett College Continuing Education and Workforce Development Department, and discounted day passes for guests accompanied by a member.
5. What types of programming will be offered in the CARC?
Tentative programming for the aquatics portion of the CARC is to include swim teams, learn-to-swim programs, arthritis programs, scuba, kayak and canoe programs, intramural sports and open/lap swimming. Tentative gymnasium programming includes GC Athletics, community functions such as graduations and concerts, and community sports leagues. Programming in cooperation with the Garrett County Memorial Hospital Wellness Division is being developed.
6. What will the operating hours of the aquatic and fitness facilities be?
A tentative operating schedule for the fitness facility and pools are from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Saturdays, and 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sundays.

8. Why did Garrett College undertake the CARC project?
The Community Aquatic and Recreation Complex (CARC) further the mission of Garrett College as it provides for education and training, economic development and community enrichment for Garrett County and the surrounding region.
9. How is the CARC funded?
The $23-million facility received state funding for the amount of $15.5 million and Garrett County funding for the amount of $7.5 million. Operating costs will be covered by membership and user fees.
10. What are the dimensions of the CARC?
The aquatics and fitness portion of the CARC is 32,500 square feet and includes two indoor swimming pools, a fitness facility and a physical therapy facility which will be run by Garrett Memorial Hospital. The gymnasium portion of the CARC is 42,500 square feet and includes three college regulation size basketball courts and bleacher seating for up to 1,600 people.
11. What is the time frame for the CARC project completion?
The CARC project is broken down into two phases. Phase one of the project includes the aquatics and fitness facility which is scheduled for completion to open in October, 2011. The second phase of the project includes the gymnasium which is scheduled for completion by early 2012.
