All course descriptions can be viewed below.  <a href=\"https:\/\/gccarc.clubautomation.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Click here<\/a> for a list of current course offerings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading black-text\" id=\"prereq\">Lifeguard Training Prerequisite<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Lifeguards must be able to complete the prerequisite prior to registering for a Lifeguarding Course.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Complete the swim tread swim sequence: Swim 150 yards using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both. &#8211; Swimming on the back or side is not permitted. &#8211; Swim goggles are allowed. Maintain position at the surface of the water for 2 minutes by treading water using only the legs. Swim 50 yards using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds.\n<ul>\n<li>Starting in the water, swim 20 yards. The face may be in or out of the water. Swim goggles are not allowed.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Surface dive, feet-first or head-first, to a depth of 7 to 10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Return to the surface and swim 20 yards to return to the starting point with both hands holding the object and keeping the face at or near the surface so they are able to get a breath. Candidates should not swim the distance under water.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Exit the water without using a ladder or steps.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading black-text\" id=\"course\">Lifeguard Training Course<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>See Course Prerequisites Above<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Purpose:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The purpose of the American Red Cross Lifeguarding course is to provide entry-level lifeguard participants with the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses until emergency medical services (EMS) personnel take over.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Certification Requirements:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Attend all class sessions<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Successfully perform all required skills<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Successfully complete three final skill scenarios<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pass the written exam with a minimum grade of 80 percent or better on each section.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Certification Validity:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>American Red Cross certificate for Lifeguarding\/First Aid\/CPR\/AED for Lifeguards &#8211; 2 year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Length of Class:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Approximately 27 hours, 30 minutes<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading black-text\" id=\"review\">Lifeguard Review Course<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Prerequisites:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Individuals with a current Lifeguarding\/First Aid\/CPR\/AED or Shallow Water Lifeguarding\/First Aid\/ CPR\/ AED certificate may participate in a review course.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Purposes:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The purpose of a review course is to give individuals the opportunity to review the course content within a formal course setting. The review course format optimizes a participant\u2019s ability to successfully complete the knowledge and skills evaluations. The responsibility for preparing for the final written exam is shared by the instructor and the participant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Certification Requirements:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Attend and participate in all class sessions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Demonstrate competency in all required skills and activities.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Demonstrate competency in all required final rescue skill scenarios.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pass both the Section 1-CPR\/AED for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid and Section 2-Lifeguarding Skills final written exams with minimum grades of 80 percent.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Certification Validity:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>American Red Cross certificate for Lifeguarding\/First Aid\/CPR\/AED: 2 years<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Length of Class:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Approximately 13 hours<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading black-text\" id=\"watersaf\">Water Safety Instructor<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Prerequisites:\ufeff<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Swim the following strokes consistent with the stroke performance charts, Level 4<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li> Front Crawl: 25 yards<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Back Crawl: 25 yards<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Breaststroke: 25 yards<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Elementary Backstroke: 25 yards<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sidestroke: 25 yards<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Butterfly: 15 yards <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Maintain position on back for 1 minutes in deep water (floating or sculling)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tread water for 1 minute <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Purpose:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The purpose of the Water Safety Instructor course is to train instructor candidates to teach Parent and Child Aquatics, Preschool Aquatics, Learn-to-Swim, Adult Swim and water safety courses and presentations. Water Safety instructor candidates must be at least 16 years old on or before the last scheduled day of the Water Safety Instructor course.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Certification Requirements:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Attend all class sessions<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Successfully perform all required skills<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Successfully complete three final skill scenarios<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pass the written exam with a minimum grade of 80 percent or better on each section.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Certification Validity:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\n\nAmerican Red Cross certificate for Water Safety Instructor valid for 2 years. Those without a certificate may not participate in the\nreview course option.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Purpose:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The purpose of a review course is to give individuals the opportunity to\nreview the course content within a formal class setting. This program is offered in traditional classroom or blended learning (online learning with instructor-led skill session) formats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Certification Requirements:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Classroom (traditional classroom, instructor-led)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Attend the entire course.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Participate in all skill sessions and scenarios.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Demonstrate competency in all required skills\nand scenarios.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pass the final written exam with a minimum grade\nof 80 percent (20 correct answers out of 25 questions).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Blended Learning (online learning and\ninstructor-led skills session)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Complete all lessons of the online learning\nsession and pass the online assessment with a score of at least 80%.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Participate in all course activities.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Demonstrate competency in all required skills.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Certification Validity:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CPR\/AED for the Professional Rescuers and Health Care Providers: 2 years<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Length of Class:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Course length varies depending on format and ranges from approximately 4 hours and 35 minutes to 5 hours and 35 minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading black-text\" id=\"pool-operator\">Certified Pool Operator Course<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Prerequisites:<\/strong>&nbsp; Minimum age 16 years old<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Purpose:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Course is designed to provide the knowledge necessary to\nsafely and efficiently manage and operate swimming pools and spas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Learning Objectives:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>State regulations governing operation of public\nand semi-public pools<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The pool operator\u2019s responsibility for\nprotection of the patrons\u2019 health<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Calculation of swimming pool volume, filter\nsurface area, and flow rate<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Filtration and circulation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pool water testing, sanitation chemistry, and\nwater balance<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Heaters and hot water chemistry<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Management of aquatic facilities<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pool operational problems and chemical\nadjustments<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Care of indoor and outdoor pools<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Disease and accident prevention, including\nsafety in the workplace.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Certification Requirements:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pass a written examination with a grade of 80 percent or\nbetter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Certification Validity:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Maryland State Certified Pool Operator Certification- 3\nyears <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Students are responsible\nto presenting their completion certificate to their local Department of Health\nto obtain the official certification card.&nbsp;\nThe College and CARC do not keep copies of the completion certificates.&nbsp; Duplicate certificates must be obtained\ndirectly from the course instructor.<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Proudly Offering American Red Cross Training since 2011.
